Working abroad in the UK

We hope that the following guidelines will prove useful to individuals seeking employment in the UK.

Before travelling, contact the British High Commission for advice. Walker Hamill cannot offer its consultancy services until you have obtained the appropriate visa. Unfortunately we cannot assist you to secure a work permit through sponsorship.

Working Holiday
If you are a Commonwealth citizen, you can apply for a two year working visa. Available for those between the ages of 18 and 30.

Ancestry
Available if any of your grandparents are/were British Citizens. The visa is valid for 4 years.

Spousal
If your spouse is British, you are eligible for a 1 year working visa. After 1 year you can apply for this to be changed to an Indefinite Leave to Remain visa.

Right of Abode
Available if your mother is British.

Highly Skilled Migrant Worker Programme (HSMWP)

This scheme allows skilled individuals to enter or remain in the UK without being tied to an individual employer. HSMWP visa holders can start their own company or undertake any skilled employment in the UK. A points system is used based on education, previous employment and income.
