Director of Finance

Our client is an established entrepreneurial business with operations across the UK and a strong market leading position in its marketplace. With revenues in excess of £100m the business is trading profitably and has recovered well-post Covid. The company produces products from a number of domestic sites that serve multiple customers in the UK and across Europe.
We are now seeking to recruit an experienced Director of Finance who will report directly to the Board and will manage, lead and develop a multi-location finance team. The successful candidate will have responsibility for all aspects of finance and be responsible for improving and updating finance to deliver a best-in-class function. You will have line responsibility for business unit controllers and play a critical role in group decisions and the longer-term strategic road map. You will be expected to proactively manage working capital to tight metrics and develop sound positive cash flow forecasts. You will also be involved in monitoring and challenging capex requirements including the development and assessment of IRR models and capex proposal requests as required.
As part of the role, the Director of Finance will need to collaborate with other departments, using internal and external data to validate commercial decisions, especially key commercial terms on large new contracts. In due course, the Director of Finance should aspire to be the Group Finance Director, a position that currently does not exist, as the company moves towards a potential event in the next few years.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with proven experience in a financial and strategic leadership role. You should have a ‘hands on’ approach and the flexibility to travel to the operations of the business across the UK, providing leadership to site controllers and the wider finance team. Excellent analytical acumen is essential to help draw conclusions and manage actions when supporting on executive decisions. Attention to detail and strong communication skills are essential for dealing with the internal senior management and the Board as well as managing relationships with external stakeholders and lenders.
You should possess demonstrable emotional intelligence, be culturally adaptable and preferably have previous experience gained working in an entrepreneurial environment. Confidence with a variety of IT systems is essential and ideally you will have previous experience of a systems implementation.
