Our client is a highly successful and very profitable specialist holiday group that continues to grow both its established brands as well as adding new brands, The business has recently strengthened its management team to ensure that it maintains its leading position in its chosen markets.

Description

This is a newly created leadership role within the finance team, responsible for shaping and delivering the full spectrum of finance activity for the group. The individual will be a key stakeholder in the wider group leadership team, delivering a robust reporting and control environment and business partnering with the CFO and MDs to achieve the group’s strategic priorities. The role will report into the CFO and will shape and manage a team of 10-15 staff. This role has end to end ownership over all areas of finance including business partnering, financial control, financial processing and treasury for the group.

As the Head of Finance you will be responsible for / required to …

  • Provide business partnership support to the senior leadership team. Be an integral adviser on the overall group growth strategy and individual projects/initiatives that deliver it.
  • Understand the performance drivers across the group and challenge the risks & opportunities to delivering forecast. Working with the senior management team, determine contingencies in case of poor trading conditions and opportunities that can be leveraged in the case of good trading.
  • Own the preparation of robust business cases in liaison with relevant business owners and the CFO, including financial benefits analysis and risk management.
  • Manage the preparation of Board presentations. Ensure the strategy is properly articulated in conjunction with the senior management team and CFO and progress is accurately tracked.
  • Lead and manage the planning & budgeting process across the group for the P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow and all main KPIs. Assist the CFO to challenge the strategy, 3 year plan and budget.
  • Manage the monthly MI, P&L, balance sheet and cashflow reporting process, including consolidation processes across the group (including one-offs reporting, risk management reporting, initiative reporting in P&L/KPIs).
  • Maintain a robust financial control environment, ensuring that risks are adequately mitigated with appropriate controls and processes are constantly challenged. Ensure up to date and robust balance sheet reconciliations, with risks and opportunities appropriately reported and managed.
  • Take ownership of financial processing (i.e. accounts payable, credit control, etc,) to deliver best in class service levels and efficient transaction processing.
  • Monitor and manage the group’s liquidity position and associated debt levels against covenants. Ensure the group has clear cash flow targets, and delivers cash initiatives that optimise the working capital cycle.
  • Propose FX hedging levels for approval by the CFO, ensuring that FX hedging is within policy.
  • Deliver continuous improvement in the efficiency, quality and consistency of accounting and reporting.
  • Oversee the annual audit process, tax and other regulatory reporting processes.
  • Lead and support the development for the group finance team. Promote a culture of excellence across the team and wider division. Cultivate a high performing finance team with success plans in place at every level.
  • Support due diligence processes within the business, from both a buy-side and sell-side perspective.
  • Deputise for the CFO and collaborate with senior stakeholders to develop and embed clear standards of quality and service.

Skills

The successful candidate should satisfy the following criteria:

  • Experienced finance professional with strong technical knowledge and good commercial finance experience in industry.
  • Experience of leading and development teams.
  • Demonstrable ability to build strong, scalable systems and procedures.
  • Business partnering & strategic skills – ability to challenge and influence at senior levels.
  • Able to build relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Good understanding of the travel sector is advantageous but not essential, but a passion for travel is highly preferable.
  • Desire to dive into the detail when required.
  • Great flexibility and resilience with ability to adapt and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups.
  • Strong modelling and excel skills with ability to process and summarise large amount of data.
  • Proactive in dealing with issues.
  • Ability to work under pressure and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Experienced finance professional with a minimum of 8 years’ experience, have strong technical knowledge and good commercial finance experience in industry is preferable
  • Experience of leading and development teams.
  • Demonstrable ability to build strong, scalable systems and procedures
  • Business partnering & strategic skills – ability to challenge and influence at senior levels
  • Able to build relationships across all levels of the organisation
  • Good understanding of the Tour Operator business model and market is advantageous
  • A passion for travel and sport is preferable but not essential to this role.
