Our Client is looking for a highly talented, detailed and commercially savvy finance professional to work very closely with the Founder of the business to assist in commercial and operational decisions going forward. The successful candidate will be responsible for all month end reporting, advising on business planning and managing external accounting and audit processes. Working very closely with the business, other responsibilities will include helping to implement processes that drive efficiencies, including cost management, margin analysis and cashflow/procurement.

Description

  • Preparation, analysis and commentary of monthly accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statement)
  • Support S&OP process with analysis and reporting tools, attend meetings to challenge commercial assumptions
  • Preparation of rolling budgets and long-term forecasts
  • Business partner commercial teams to ensure controls are in place to effectively manage departmental budgets and monthly forecasting
  • Explore opportunities to reduce costs and improve margin
  • Undertake strategic analysis and assisting with strategic planning including research into pricing, competitors and factors affecting performance
  • Carry out business modelling and risk assessments to help make strategic decisions around growth
  • Review accounting processes and systems with recommendations for supporting a rapidly growing business overtime
  • Development of a commercial Finance function, working closely with the Sales team
  • Establish inventory targets and KPIs, undertake capex evaluations
  • Stock and margin reconciliation including PVM analysis
  • Manage the banking and cashflow requirements, including treasury strategy
  • Liaise with external accountants on payroll, VAT submissions and regulatory reporting
  • Manage and grow the team over time as required
  • Report directly to the founder and support with finance related and adhoc matters

Skills

  • Finance professional ideally with a background in FMCG, retail or consumer sectors and a strong understanding of challenges currently facing the food industry
  • Advanced Excel, highly numerate and a natural flair for systems, preferably with experience of accounting systems suitable for the SME FMCG industry
  • Great people person/manager–can manage up and down
  • Ability to work in and demonstrate a strong understanding of an ever-changing, entrepreneurial startup
  • Outstanding functional finance experience, with a track record of problem solving, developing and embedding processes
  • An exposure or knowledge of supply chain are a benefit
  • Strategic thinker with a strong drive for results,excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet tight timelines
  • Resilience to deal with the inevitable knock-backs that occur in a start-up environment
  • Self-aware, open to feedback and willing to try new things
