Our client is a fast-growing technology-led financial services company, transforming the insurance experience through innovative technology. They are seeking a Technical Accountant on a temporary basis to support the Group’s technical accounting and financial reporting activities. The role offers a mix of day-to-day accounting responsibilities and project-focused technical work, ideal for someone who enjoys tackling complex issues, enhancing processes and collaborating across teams. The successful candidate will be a newly or recently qualified accountant with a Big 4 or Top 10 audit background. Initially until the end of the year but likely to be extended.
Description
The responsibilities of the Technical Accountant role include but are not limited to:
- Support the assessment and implementation of changes to financial reporting standards, including FRS 102, and assess their impact across the business.
- Research and prepare technical accounting analysis across areas including revenue recognition, leases, share-based payments, intangibles, impairment, provisions and financial instruments.
- Take ownership of defined technical accounting projects, resolving legacy issues and audit findings while identifying practical, sustainable solutions.
- Support revenue recognition transformation work, reviewing policies and processes, identifying gaps and working with Finance and wider teams to strengthen reporting and documentation.
- Prepare and review accounting entries, balance sheet reconciliations and technical accounting papers, ensuring robust supporting evidence for external audit.
- Partner with teams across Finance and the wider business to provide technical accounting guidance, identify control improvements and incorporate accounting requirements into new products and processes.
Skills
The skills of the Technical Accountant role include but are not limited to:
- Newly or recently qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CA, CPA or equivalent).
- Assistant Manager experience from Big 4 or Top 10 accounting firms.
- Experience working with insurance or financial services’ clients is desirable.
- Experience working in a multi-entity group or supporting consolidated reporting under UK GAAP / FRS 102.
- Great attention to detail and able to meet tight deadlines.
