Our client is an established private equity firm based in central London. They are seeking an Interim Portfolio Analyst to join the Insights/Portfolio Reporting team at least until September 2022. This role will be focused on assisting in the analysis of portfolio companies' performance, using both financial and non-financial data, in order to support decision-making by the Strategy team and senior leadership. This is a great opportunity for the right individual to join a fast-paced and dynamic team in a role that has the potential to become longer-term in light of strong performance.

Description

  • Prepare monthly portfolio performance reporting packs for senior leadership.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly investment reports.
  • Analyse the financial performance of the firm's funds, investigating variances in financial performance.
  • Work with the rest of the team to improve the quality of reporting and the efficiency of processes.
  • Work with portfolio company Finance teams and Deal teams to investigate root causes of issues with financials, changes in accounting policy etc. 
  • Liaise with the Deal teams, Operating Partners and portfolio company Finance teams to understand the drivers of investment performance.
  • Assist in answering investor queries, particularly during fundraising. 
  • Prepare valuations each quarter for portfolio companies, including the collection of relevant data, critically assessing changes in performance and the potential impact of recent events on valuations, making appropriate pro forma adjustments.
  • Perform research on market comparable companies, including improving comparable sets and analysing the characteristics of comparable companies. 
  • Assist in preparing valuation reports.
  • Take minutes during the Quarterly Valuations Committee. 
  • Manage and liaise with auditors during the annual audit of valuations. 
  • Assist with continuous improvements to the valuation processes and reports. 
  • Develop ad hoc financial and non-financial analysis as required by investors and leadership. 
  • Build financial and non-financial dashboards, KPIs and reports for senior leadership using PowerBI and Excel. 

Skills

  • ACA/CFA/CIMA/ACCA (or equivalent) qualification, with 2+ years of PQE.
  • Strong academic background, with a background in accounting or financial services work. 
  • Very strong Excel and general technology skills. Naturally analytical. Adept at gathering and manipulating data. 
  • Highly commercial and quick to understand the drivers of a business.
  • Confident communicator with credibility around senior stakeholders, both internal and external. 
  • Strong attention to detail with a hands-on approach, happy working independently on a broad range of tasks and driving improvement. 
  • Experience of any of the following would be desirable: working in a financial reporting function; of business intelligence, data analysis or data engineering (i.e. working with PowerBI, Tableau, Alteryx, general statistics); experience of valuations (i.e. advising private equity funds, mid-tier PE-backed companies or fund analysis); working in a change management or process engineering capacity; report-writing.
